Court sentences man to death for murder, attempted sexual assault of child
The Grand Criminal Court sentenced a man in his twenties to death by hanging after he murdered a nine-year-old boy in Amman.
The court’s ruling detailed how the defendant lured the boy to his home, promising him a collection of books kept in his room. When the defendant tried to sexually assault the child, the boy fought back and cried out, prompting the defendant to retrieve a scarf from his mother’s closet and strangle the boy to death.
The court noted that the defendant wrapped the victim’s body in a blanket, placed it among olive trees, and concealed it with a rug.
After the police found the body, and after conducting a survey of the place and viewing the cameras, the accused was arrested and referred to court.
During a public session, the court convicted the accused, in his twenties, of the felony of premeditated murder in preparation for, facilitating, and executing a felony, in violation of the provisions of Article 328\2 of the Penal Code.
