King Abdullah II of Jordan is set to inaugurate the first regular session of the 20th Parliament on Monday, delivering a speech.

This speech marks the formal start of the legislative cycle for both the House of Representatives and the Senate. During his address, the King will outline key national policies, current regional issues, and developmental plans that the government aims to implement.

The ceremony also includes the submission of a formal response from both legislative chambers to the King's speech, as stipulated by Article 79 of the Jordanian Constitution. These responses are typically provided within two weeks of the session’s opening.

Following the inauguration, the House of Representatives will hold its first session to elect a new Speaker. This election is a critical procedural step since the chamber cannot proceed with legislative discussions or decisions until a Speaker is chosen, in accordance with Article 5 of the House's internal regulations.

The process of electing a Speaker involves several formalities, including the appointment of a supervisory committee and a transparent voting procedure. If multiple candidates run for the position, a second round of voting may be necessary to achieve a majority decision. This session marks a significant moment in Jordan's parliamentary process as it sets the legislative agenda for the upcoming year, with particular attention expected on reforms and pressing national issues.
