Report: Elon Musk, Iran’s UN ambassador allegedly meet up in New York
CBS reported that Elon Musk met with Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, just one day before being appointed co-chair of a cost-cutting initiative in President-elect Donald Trump's administration.
The report indicated that the meeting aimed to discuss ways to de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran.
However, the Iranian government strongly denied the meeting. Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a firm denial on Saturday, dismissing the CBS report and stating that no such meeting took place.
Iranian state media also backed this position, asserting that the claims were false.
The alleged meeting was said to have occurred at Iravani's residence in New York, with the aim of addressing the growing strains between the two nations.
The news was first reported by the New York Times, which cited unnamed sources familiar with the matter.
As of now, there is no clarity on whether President-elect Trump or his incoming national security team were aware of the meeting. It remains uncertain whether the meeting actually took place or if it was part of informal discussions that did not involve official US government representatives.
This incident is particularly significant given the current political climate surrounding US-Iran relations.
Several members of Trump’s incoming national security team, such as Mike Waltz and Marco Rubio, are known for their hardline stance on Iran, often referred to as "Iran hawks." These figures have advocated for a more aggressive approach toward Tehran, further complicating the possibility of diplomatic breakthroughs.
