Three charged in death of One Direction's Liam Payne

Argentinian prosecutors have charged three individuals in connection with the death of One Direction singer Liam Payne, who died on Oct. 16, 2024.

Payne, 31, was found dead after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires. Toxicology tests revealed traces of alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants in his system.

Authorities have charged a hotel employee, a drug dealer, and a person close to Payne for allegedly providing him with the substances.

The individual accompanying Payne at the time of his death is also charged with "abandonment of a person followed by death."

The names of those who were charged were not disclosed.

Payne had been struggling with alcoholism, and his death has sparked an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow bandmates. His death occurred shortly after he had attended a concert by former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan. Fans have since created a makeshift memorial outside the hotel.
