Mbappé denies facing investigation over sexual assault allegations
Football player Kylian Mbappé is allegedly facing an investigation by Swedish authorities following allegations of rape and sexual molestation stemming from his recent visit to Stockholm.
The 25-year-old French forward is reportedly being examined under "reasonable suspicion," which indicates a lower threshold of evidence in the Swedish legal system.
Mbappé made an unannounced trip to the Swedish capital last week, where he was spotted enjoying the nightlife on Thursday evening and into the early hours of Friday. He dined at the upscale Chez Jolie restaurant in the Östermalm district before heading to the nightclub "V."
According to police reports, the alleged incident occurred on Thursday, October 10. The claims were brought to the attention of law enforcement two days later, prompting an investigation that is currently under the direction of a prosecutor.
Police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl stated, “This matter is now being handled by a prosecutor,” but declined to provide further details, referring inquiries to the prosecutor's office.
The Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet reported that investigators, including a forensic crime unit, were seen at the Bank Hotel, where Mbappé was staying during his visit. Allegations suggest that the incident may have occurred at the hotel.
In response to the claims, Mbappé took to X to label the accusations as “fake news,” suggesting that the timing of the allegations was “predictable.” This comes just ahead of his court appearance concerning a separate legal matter related to 55 million euros in unpaid bonuses and wages owed to him by his former club, Paris Saint-Germain.
