Jordan's cabinet discusses support for Palestine, Lebanon

On Tuesday, Jordan's Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan, convened to discuss the current regional developments and the efforts made by King Abdullah II to de-escalate tensions while supporting the Palestinians and Lebanese.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi briefed the council on the serious escalation in the region due to Israeli Occupation aggression in Gaza, violations in the West Bank, and the conflict in Lebanon. The council reaffirmed its commitment to continuing political, diplomatic, and humanitarian efforts to halt the aggression and assist the affected populations.

The Cabinet emphasized that Jordan, under King Abdullah II’s leadership, will continue to strive to stop the dangerous Israeli Occupation escalation, warning that the ongoing aggression could lead to regional and global disasters. The council called on the international community to unite in achieving a ceasefire and finding comprehensive solutions.

It highlighted the unprecedented catastrophic effects of the year-long Israeli Occupation assault on Gaza, reiterating Jordan's steadfast position on the need to end the aggression and ensure humanitarian aid reaches all areas of the strip. The Cabinet also stressed the importance of recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution and international resolutions.

Regarding the Israeli Occupation war on Lebanon, the Cabinet expressed full solidarity with Lebanon and reiterated its support for the country's security, stability, and sovereignty. It noted Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi's visit to Lebanon, which was directed by King Abdullah II, to reaffirm Jordan's support for its neighbor.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the Social Work Profession Regulation for 2024 to enhance the quality of social services provided to beneficiaries. It also endorsed the National Strategy for Older Persons for 2025-2030, aimed at improving the quality of life for seniors and fostering their active participation in society.

Furthermore, the council approved an executive program for a memorandum of understanding between the Jordanian and Egyptian ministries of Awqaf to enhance cooperation in religious and cultural exchange.

At the end of the session, the Cabinet accepted the resignation of Hamza Al Alyani, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Petra Development and Tourism Authority, and terminated the services of council member Ayman Abdul Majid Al Majali.
