Gunshots fired near "Israeli" embassy in Germany
German police announced that gunshots were fired in a square in Munich near the Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism on Thursday.
Authorities confirmed that officers shot and injured a suspect.
According to a statement on X, there are currently no signs of other suspects or additional incidents in the city.
The Documentation Center is located near the "Israeli" consulate in the Maxvorstadt district of Munich.
Earlier, police reported a major operation in response to the incident and advised the public to avoid the area. A helicopter was deployed for better oversight.
Witnesses reported hearing loud gunfire, and social media videos showed a person fleeing the scene in panic.
Benedikt Franke is Vice-Chairman and CEO with the Munich Security Conference (MSC), told German tabloid newspaper Bild that his office, adjacent to the Documentation Center, was surrounded by police.
He reported hearing at least twelve gunshots and seeing numerous emergency services at the scene.
The incident occurred on the anniversary of the 1972 Munich Olympics attack, in which 11 "Israeli" athletes were killed.
Later, Israel Hayom reported that the official memorial event, scheduled for today, was canceled due to the shooting.
