Travelers were surprised by Austrian Airlines' decision to cancel the flight from Vienna to Amman on Monday morning.

Passengers reported that the airline, part of the Lufthansa Group—Europe's largest airline group—decided to cancel the Vienna-Amman segment of their journey, which started in Montreal, Canada.

A traveler told Roya that the Vienna-Amman flight, scheduled to depart on Aug. 5, 2024, at 11:15 AM, was canceled. Passengers in transit were informed that the cancellation was due to "security reasons."

Some passengers turned to Royal Jordanian Airlines to continue their journey to Amman via Paris. The arrivals screen at Queen Alia International Airport showed the cancellation of the flight from Vienna, which was scheduled to arrive at 3:45 PM on Monday.

A source confirmed to Roya that air traffic in Jordanian airspace was normal and unrelated to the tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

The source added that airlines have the discretion to suspend or resume flights, emphasizing that any decision regarding Jordanian airspace is made solely by the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority.

Austrian Airlines announced it would suspend all flights to Amman, Tel Aviv, Beirut, Erbil, and Tehran.
