VIDEO-IMAGES: Massive crowds in Doha mourn Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh
Friday, large crowds gathered at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Doha, Qatar, to attend the funeral of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas' political bureau, who was assassinated earlier this week.
Haniyeh's body will be laid to rest after Friday prayers in a cemetery in Lusail, a city north of the Qatari capital, with the participation of local and regional leaders.
Haniyeh's coffin arrived in Doha on Thursday afternoon, following a funeral ceremony in Tehran, led by Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The assassination of Haniyeh, along with his personal bodyguard, in Tehran came just hours after another high-profile assassination, that of Hezbollah military leader Fouad Shukr in Beirut.
Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas leader, condemned the assassination, viewing it as an Israeli Occupation attempt to mask its failures, and vowed that Hamas would continue its resistance efforts.
