Jordan calls on UN to curb “rogue state of Israel”

Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi called on the United Nations Security Council Thursday to act within its mandate to “not allow a rogue state” to impose further war and destruction on the region.

In a joint press conference with Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Xavier Bettel, Safadi warned that “Israel” has undermined efforts by mediators by assassinating a key negotiator – Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh.

“The assassination of the Hamas political bureau chief yesterday is a criminal escalation that constitutes a clear violation of international law and national sovereignty,” he said, adding that “we must not allow the extremist Israeli agenda to push the region toward further destruction.”

“The future of the region should not be held hostage to the blatant revenge-seeking of the Israeli Prime Minister.”

Safadi re-iterated that no one will be allowed to turn Jordan into a battlefield, amid the recent rising tension between the Israeli Occupation and Iran and its proxies.
