Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump commented on US President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will not seek re-election in the 2024 presidential race.

Trump described Biden as "the worst president in the country’s history so far," according to CNN.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the next Democratic candidate, Trump believes that Vice President Kamala Harris would be easier to defeat than Biden.

Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race on Sunday, less than four months before the elections and after weeks of speculation about his physical and mental condition.

The 81-year-old Democrat, who is recovering from COVID-19 at his home in Delaware, stated on X, "It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve you as president."

He added, "I believe it is in the best interest of my party and my country to step aside and focus solely on my duties as president until the end of my term." Biden mentioned that he would address the nation later this week to provide more details about his decision.

Biden’s withdrawal plunges the Democratic Party into chaos as it scrambles to find a new candidate for the November election.

Vice President Kamala Harris is the most likely contender for the nomination.

Biden’s decision follows weeks of pressure that began with a disastrous performance in a presidential debate, raising concerns about his health.

This makes Biden the first president in US history to withdraw so late in the election race and the first to do so due to concerns about his mental stamina.

Biden spent more than three weeks resisting calls to withdraw from the race following the shock of the June 27 debate.
