19/7/2024 10:22|A 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit northern Chile on Thursday, as reported by the American Geophysical Institute.
The quake's epicenter was located 265 kilometers east of Antofagasta at a depth of 126 kilometers. No tsunami warning has been issued yet.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric stated on the "X" platform that there are no reports of injuries or major damage so far, but teams are gathering information.
Chile, situated on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," experiences frequent seismic activity. In 2010, an 8.8-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami killed around 520 people.
The recent earthquake's epicenter was about 80 kilometers from Chile's border with Argentina and less than 30 kilometers from its border with Bolivia.
