Paris city hall said today that the Seine has been enough to swim in for most of the past 12 days, as the 2024 Summer Olympics is set to start after 14 days on July 26.

The quality of the water met the required standard for "11 days or 10 days" of the past 12, city hall official Pierre Rabadan told Radio France Internationale (RFI) – cited by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The river will be the star of the opening ceremony of the Games on July 26 and will then host the triathlon and the swimming marathon.

The Seine River, which flows through the heart of Paris, has historically faced significant pollution challenges.

For decades, the river was considered unsafe for swimming due to high levels of bacteria and industrial pollutants.
