Decline in Jordan's total tourism income by 6.5 percent until end of May
Jordan's tourism income for the first five months amounted to USD 2.6 billion, according to the Central Bank.
Data from the Central Bank showed a 6.5 percent decrease in tourism income compared to the same period in 2023, attributed to a 10 percent drop in tourist numbers.
Hussein Hilalat, Vice President and spokesperson for the Jordan Hotel Association, confirmed that hotel booking rates during the Eid al-Adha holiday were "low and below expectations."
Hilalat told "Roya" that hotel booking rates in tourist sites relying on European tourism did not exceed 4 percent, such as in Madaba and Wadi Rum, with bookings in Petra being almost non-existent.
Aqaba recorded the highest occupancy rate at 75 percent, followed by the Dead Sea at 65 percent, and Amman at 47 percent.
