Egypt, Jordan, UN hold joint press conference at conclusion of Jordan-held Gaza conference

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths held a joint press conference at the conclusion of the Emergency Humanitarian Response Conference for Gaza which was held today in the Dead Sea, Jordan.

Safadi emphasized that the conflict in Palestine will not end until the Israeli occupation ends, noting that the continued aggression on Gaza constitutes a war crime.

“The aggression on Gaza is a catastrophe unlike anything the international community has witnessed in decades,” he said.

He underscored the importance of swift action to deliver aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip and increase its quantities.

“Israel's use of starvation as a weapon is a war crime. We demand an end to the aggression and the reopening of all Gaza crossings.”

“Our message is to call for a ceasefire and emphasize the importance of humanitarian organizations, especially UNRWA,” he continued.

He reaffirmed that Jordan will exert every effort to counter any attempt to displace Palestinians from their homeland.

For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that his country seeks a complete and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip – warning that International humanitarian law is being systematically violated in Gaza.

Shoukry also reiterated Egypt’s call for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
