“Israeli” torture of Palestinian prisoners is at core of the resistance: Osama Hamdan

During a press conference on Tuesday, Hamas leader, Osama Hamdan, stated that the continued aggression, systematic violations, and escalation by the Israeli Occupation against Palestinian prisoners were, and continue, to be the roots of the Palestinian resistance.

Hamdan stated, “The occupation is still detaining more than 200 Palestinian children in its prisons since October 7, facing harsh conditions. The occupation forces have arrested more than 4,000 people from the Gaza Strip since October 7.”

Hamdan asserted that the escalation against Palestinian prisoners and detainees in “Israeli” prisons, detention centres, and camps are reminiscent of the Nazi regime and war crimes.

“The testimonies of those released in the Gaza Strip are horrific, telling of the horror of the violations and the ugliness of the Zionist crimes against prisoners and detainees,” he stated. “The occupation deliberately humiliates the prisoners in its prisons, deprives them of food and sleep, and tortures them in various ways.”

He stated that the Israeli Occupation carries out field executions of Palestinian prisoners in secret prisons and enforces forced disappearances, continuing the systematic blackout on the reality of detainees.

He continued to assert that “Israeli” extremist National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, punishes Palestinian detainees on the daily and is at the core of the problem.

Earlier this April, Ben-Gvir went as far as to say that applying the death penalty to Palestinian detainees who are “terrorists” is the “right” solution to tackle the problem of prison overcrowding.

Hamdan concluded by saying, “We call on the international community to intervene to stop the violations of the occupation.”
