Rescuers are currently attempting to reach a helicopter involved in an “incident” carrying the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, along with his entourage – according to Iranian state media.

Different accounts were reported by Iranian media, with no clear explanation of the “incident.”

"Some unconfirmed reports say that the helicopter carrying President Raisi has had an accident in East Azerbaijan province," state television said adding that rescue efforts were underway.

The Minister of Interior of Iran, Ahmad Vahidi, said that poor weather conditions led to a difficult landing for the helicopter carrying the Iranian President.

Rescue teams have yet to reach the incident site, he added.

“Weather conditions are poor and we await the arrival of rescue teams for accurate information about the incident,” he continued.
