Government scraps unpaid leaves for employees

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Public Sector Modernization, Nasser Al-Shrayddah, said that the government will be getting rid of unpaid leaves for employees of the public sector.

The approach seeks to prevent competent and proficient Jordanian workforce laborers from migrating abroad – as taking an unpaid leave in the public sector reserves your vacancy for an indefinite period of time; which has been utilized by many to look for job opportunities abroad, according to Minister Al-Shrayddah.

As part of the Public Sector Modernization plan, public employees are now only allowed to have four months of unpaid leave per year, and a duration of eight months throughout the employee’s entire tenure.
