The Public Prosecution referred the case of a teacher at a special education center accused of assaulting a disabled child to the Court of First Instance in Irbid to examine the extension of her custody period.

The court decided to reject the release of the teacher and ordered her continued detention in a correctional and rehabilitation center.

Acting within its legal powers and duties, the Public Prosecution initiated an investigation into the case. The public prosecutor in Irbid brought a lawsuit on behalf of the public interest, charging the teacher with assault and aggression against a person with disabilities.

The law grants the Public Prosecution the right to bring a lawsuit on behalf of the public interest without waiting for a private lawsuit, and regardless of any complaint in such cases of assault.

The teacher appealed the detention decision, stating that she used this method to discipline the student. The court rejected this appeal, upheld the decision of the Public Prosecution, and decided to keep her in custody.
