Hollywood's Holocaust imagery: Challenging the narrative?

Comments from Jewish director Jonathan Glazer regarding his film "The Zone of Interest," which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, have sparked controversy within Hollywood and the global Jewish community.

Glazer, whose film was inspired by the Jewish Holocaust, said those killed in both Israeli Occupation and Gaza were victims of "dehumanization."

"Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst. It's shaped all of our past and present."

He added: “Right now we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people. Whether the victims of October 7 in Israel or the ongoing attack in Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization, how do we resist?”

Voices critical of Israeli Occupation's exploitation of the Holocaust have emerged, including Holocaust survivors and descendants, condemning the use of their family's suffering to justify Israeli Occupation policies.

Notable figures like Hungarian-Canadian psychologist Gabor Mate, himself a Holocaust survivor, have spoken out against this exploitation, emphasizing the psychological trauma inflicted on Palestinians by Israeli Occupation actions in Gaza.
