King Abdullah II met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Sunday to discuss the critical developments in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need for international action to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the region.

During the meeting in Aqaba, King Abdullah stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to protect civilians and providing sufficient and sustainable humanitarian assistance to Gaza through all available means.

The King, accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, warned of the tragic humanitarian conditions in Gaza, urging intensified efforts to prevent further deterioration.

He also warned of the danger of discontinuing support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and its serious consequences on Gaza, the West Bank, and Jordan.

King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's rejection of any attempts at forced displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, as well as any efforts to separate them.

He highlighted the need to address the violence perpetrated by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank and the violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Both sides cautioned against the Israeli attack on Rafah, which would exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The meeting also discussed the European Union's role and efforts in achieving peace, with King Abdullah emphasizing the necessity of concerted and effective action to establish a political horizon for a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution.

The meeting also addressed the strong relations between Jordan and Germany, particularly the close cooperation in vocational training and technical education for Jordanian youth, and the continuous German support for developmental projects in the Kingdom.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of the King's Office Dr. Jaafar Hassan, the delegation accompanying Chancellor Scholz, and German Ambassador to the Kingdom Bertram von Moltke.
