Electric vehicle market surges with 134 percent increase in clearances
The electric vehicle market in Jordan has witnessed significant growth recently, becoming a goal for Jordanian citizens seeking ways to save substantial amounts compared to the high fuel prices in the region and globally.
Chairman of the Jordanian Free Zones Investors Authority, Mohammad Al-Bustanji, revealed an increase in the clearance of electric vehicles. There has been remarkable growth in the clearance of electric vehicles from the free zone in Zarqa, with the number reaching 4,777 vehicles. This marks a 134 percent increase compared to 2,036 vehicles during the same period last year.
Al-Bustanji added that this rise reflects a clear preference for electric vehicles, accounting for 70 percent of the total cleared vehicles in the past month.
For January of the current year, the number of vehicles cleared at the end of Jan. reached 6,769 vehicles, a 29 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to statistics related to the vehicle market in Jordan.
Al-Bustanji explained that the clearance of gasoline vehicles recorded a 57 percent decline, reaching only 505 vehicles compared to 1,182 vehicles in Jan. of the previous year, indicating a significant shift in consumer preferences.
Similarly, the clearance of diesel vehicles slightly decreased by 8 percent, totaling 560 vehicles compared to 607 vehicles in the same period of the previous year. Clearance of hybrid cars also decreased by 34 percent, registering 927 vehicles compared to 1,415 in Jan. 2023.
He highlighted the increase in the total number of exported vehicles at the end of last Jan., reaching 3,911 vehicles, a 32 percent increase compared to 2,941 vehicles during the same period the previous year. This reflects the strength and flexibility of the Jordanian market in meeting external demand, as well as its ability to adapt to global changes in the automotive industry.
He emphasized that the significant increase in the clearance of these types of vehicles is not just an indicator of changing consumer preferences but also reflects governmental and private efforts to encourage the use of more sustainable and environmentally friendly means of transportation.
He called for expanding the infrastructure for vehicle charging stations throughout the Kingdom and providing more incentives for both investors and consumers.
