The National Center for Curriculum Development has added the events of October 7, 2023, to the “Civic Education” textbook for tenth-grade students in Jordan.

"Israel ignored the repeated resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, refused to withdraw from the occupied Arab territories, continued to oppress the Arab Palestinian people and commit massacres against them day by day, and attacked the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” the textbook states.

“This prompted the Palestinian resistance movement in the Gaza Strip to storm the Israeli border surrounding the Strip on October 7, 2023, capturing settlers and Israeli soldiers, leading to a violent response from the Israeli enemy, manifested in a complete and destructive attack on the Gaza Strip. This resulted in tens of thousands of martyrs and injuries, as well as the destruction of infrastructure, including schools, mosques, churches, hospitals, and civilian homes," it added.

The “Civic Education” textbook narrates the timeline and the developments of the Palestinian cause, its roots, Zionist ambitions in Palestine, and the violations suffered by the Palestinian people. It also emphasizes Jordan's continued responsibility towards Palestine and its continued defense on the international stage.

It outlines Jordan's role on all levels in affirming the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state on their land with Jerusalem as its capital.

In response, Dr. Ibrahim Badran, a member of the National Center for Curriculum Development, stated that adding the events of October 7, 2023, does not pose any obstacle and is in line with discussing the events of the Palestinian cause and is consistent with the ideals of the Ministry and the Higher Center for Curricula and the Jordanian state.

The updated version of the textbooks will be distributed to tenth-grade students during the second semester of the current academic year.
