On Friday, Jordan welcomed the historic decision issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the case brought by the Republic of South Africa against Israeli Occupation, accusing it of committing the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and violating its obligations under the Genocide Convention and the punishment thereof.

The spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Sufian Al-Qudah, emphasized the significance of the historic decision issued by the ICJ in the case brought by South Africa against Israeli Occupation.

The case accused the Israeli Occupation of committing the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, violating its obligations under the Genocide Convention, and called for immediate procedural measures. These measures include stopping the Israeli Occupation from committing crimes such as killing Palestinians, inflicting physical or mental harm on them, and subjecting them to living conditions aimed at their material destruction and the provision of humanitarian needs.

Al-Qudah stressed the urgent implementation of these procedural measures to halt the killing of innocent civilians in Gaza and the destruction of all aspects of life, following the Israeli Occupation aggression that resulted in the deaths of over 26,000 Palestinians and the displacement of two-thirds of the Gaza Strip's population from their homes, depriving them of their right to food, water, medicine, and basic services.

He expressed Jordan's appreciation for the efforts of its friendly South African Republic and its support for the lawsuit.

Al-Qudah also emphasized the immediate action of the international community to stop the Israeli Occupation aggression on Gaza, which is causing a humanitarian catastrophe and represents a flagrant violation of international law, humanitarian law, and a disregard for all legal, ethical, and humanitarian boundaries.

The ICJ stated that the Israeli Occupation must take all prescribed measures to prevent genocide in the Gaza Strip.

During the court session to issue its decision on the Israeli Occupation's aggression against Gaza on Friday, it asserted that the Palestinian people are protected under the Genocide Convention, and that the Israeli Occupation is obligated to take action to prevent direct incitement to genocide. The judgment imposes international legal obligations on the Israeli Occupation.

The ICJ added that the Israeli Occupation must submit a report to the court on all interim measures imposed within a month, in addition to its commitment to avoid everything related to killing, aggression, and destruction against the inhabitants of Gaza.
