The head of the Jordanian Seismological Observatory, Ghassan Swaydan, stated that Jordan recorded 231 seismic activities during 2023.

Swaydan added to "Roya" Wednesday that the strongest seismic activity recorded in the Kingdom was of 4.2 magnitude, in the Gulf of Aqaba on May 16, 2023.

He pointed out that the 231 recorded seismic activities ranged in magnitude from 1.3 to 4.2, indicating that most of them occurred in Wadi Araba, the Dead Sea, and Lake Tiberias.

Swaydan added that seismic activity in Jordan is within normal rates, noting that in the years preceding 2023, the rate of seismic activities was 140.
