Jordan notifies Iran of 'need to halt smuggling operations'

The Jordanian government announced Monday that it has informed Iran of the necessity to halt smuggling operations by its militias in Syria, which span across the northern border and into Jordan.

A military source within the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army stated that armed clashes have been ongoing since the early hours of Monday morning between Jordanian Border Guard forces and armed groups on the northern borders of the Hashemite Kingdom, an area which lies within the jurisdiction of the Eastern Military Zone. These clashes have so far resulted in thwarting the smuggling of large quantities of drugs, automatic weapons, and rockets.
