A responsible military source in the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF)- the Arab Army, announced the successful thwarting of a significant drug smuggling attempt originating from Syrian territories in an operation conducted by the Eastern Military Region Friday morning.

The source stated in a release that "Border Guard forces, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department and military security agencies, detected, through front-line monitoring, an attempt by a group of smugglers to illegally cross the borders from Syrian territories into Jordan."

The statement noted that patrols were immediately deployed, applying engagement rules and had to use gunfire, resulting in the injury of several and the escape of others into Syrian territories.

The source mentioned that 278,000 Captagon pills and 1,738 kilograms of hashish were discovered, and the seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities.

The source affirmed that the JAF remains committed to dealing decisively with any threats along the border fronts and any attempts to undermine national security or intimidate its citizens.

Border Guard forces had previously thwarted a drug smuggling attempt early Thursday, resulting in the death of one smuggler and the injury of others.
