US requests postponing 'ground offensive' until humanitarian corridor secured in Gaza
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation has reported that the United States has requested Tel Aviv to postpone the ground offensive until a humanitarian corridor is secured for the residents of the Gaza Strip.
Russian media outlets have stated that Russia has put forth a proposal calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, one week after the occupation's aggression, which has resulted in the tragic loss of 1,900 Palestinian lives and the displacement of hundreds from their homes as of Friday evening.
The proposal urges the delivery of humanitarian aid and the safe evacuation of civilians in need.
The Russian draft resolution, distributed to the Security Council Friday evening, expresses deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The proposal also emphasizes the necessity to protect civilian populations from both the Palestinian and Israeli Occupation settler sides.
In a previous session, the US called on council members to strongly condemn Hamas' attack on settlements, however, no member state was able to reach a unified council stance on the developments in the Palestinian territories.
