WHO reports 38 percent surge in COVID-19 infections in August

In August, the global coronavirus infection rate surged by 38 percent, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), with over 1.4 million new cases worldwide.

According to a research report released by the WHO on a Saturday, there were more than 1.4 million fresh COVID-19 cases and over 1,800 fatalities attributable to the virus from July 31 to August 27.

Comparing this period to the previous 28 days, there was a notable 38 percent increase in the number of infection cases, while the death rate declined by 50 percent. The latest data provided by the World Health Organization reveals that the total count of COVID-19 infections now stands at more than 770 million cases, resulting in 6.956 million deaths across the globe due to the pandemic.
