Putin affirms desecration of Quran is penalized in Russia, emphasizes its sacredness

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Wednesday that while desecration of the Quran may not be considered a crime in some countries, it is penalized in Russia.

Putin made these remarks during his visit to the historical mosque of Derbent in the Dagestan Autonomous Republic, where he met with Muslim representatives and received a gift of a copy of the Quran in celebration of Muslim holiday Eid Al-Adha.

This came after the Holy Quran was burned near Stockholm Central Mosque on the first day of Eid and during Hajj which is the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.

Expressing gratitude for the gift, Putin emphasized the sacredness of the Quran for Muslims and affirmed Russia's commitment to respecting its sanctity, stating that his country will always adhere to these principles, as they are enshrined in the Constitution and penal code.
