Forest fires in Canada leave Montreal blanketed with smog, giving it the worst air quality of any major city in the world.

Local resident Fauve Lepage Vallee described the situation saying: "It's really like fog, except that it's smoke because of the forest fires. It's really hard to breathe."

Another local Ecaterina Carlov said: "My eyes sting a little too, it's a little hard to see, but it's okay with a mask.

"I'm a bit sad to see the city like this because we can't enjoy it too much and it's a bit unbreathable after a while, but we know that the firefighters are doing their best to restore the situation, so we're waiting," said another local Floriane Oculi.

A resident Ian Lopez described the smell saying: "The odor is pretty strong, so as soon as I stepped out of the building, not even stepping out of the building, I could smell the poor quality of air oozing through the doors. Immediately I had to get a mask because the type of air quality we got to be breathing. And it’s harder for her because she has asthma."
