Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday that his forces could protect Europe from Russian forces, but added: "Now is the time to provide all the weapons necessary for defense."

Kyiv needed F-16 fighter jets and Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), he said.

"The security of Europe's eastern flank depends only on our defense," he said.

This came after he said Russia's Vladimir Putin is likely "very scared" and hiding someplace as rebel mercenaries were advancing on Moscow before they turned back.

"The man from the Kremlin is obviously very scared and is probably hiding somewhere," Zelensky said in his daily address to the nation, adding that Putin has "created this threat himself."
