Around 30,000 to 35,000 individuals lost their lives in France during the summer since 2014 due to extreme temperatures, according to the French Public Health Agency.

The agency's study revealed that these deaths were not solely associated with heatwaves and that around one-third of the victims were under the age of 75.

While the frequency of heat waves has increased between 2019 and 2022, establishing a direct link between heatwaves and climate change remains challenging.

The agency's data highlighted a significant rise in mortality during the three heat waves experienced last summer, resulting in an additional 3,000 deaths.
