Wednesday, Agriculture Minister Khaled Hunaifat said Jordan has a surplus of 140 percent of vegetables, and self-sufficiency of approximately 61 percent of fruits, milk, meat and eggs.

Hunaifat told Roya that some foodstuffs must be imported according to market needs.

Regarding food security in Jordan, he stressed that Jordan has proven its ability to overcome all types of crises that many countries go through such as the coronavirus pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

This, he said, comes based on the testimony of international organizations, not governmental ones.

He pointed out that the ministry is working on rural development in relation to food production, including holding exhibitions and bazaars to promote local products, as well as investing in the field.
