Thursday, TV host Jerry Springer died aged 79 at his home in Chicago, as reported by the BBC.

He was best known for hosting The Jerry Springer Show, which aired for approximately 30 years.

Springer's friend and family spokesperson described him as "irreplaceable" and said "Jerry's ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word."

"His loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on," he wrote.

Springer started his career in the field of politics; he was an advisor to Robert F Kennedy and served as mayor of Cincinnati.

He entered the world of TV journalism as a reporter for a local TV channel.

The Jerry Springer Show came to life in 1991 as an ordinary talk show that discusses social issues and politics, but after it switched styles to boost ratings, it topped American daytime television charts in the late ninties.

He later also hosted America's Got Talent and presented a courtroom show called Judge Jerry.
