A six-year-old boy allegedly shot and seriously injured his school teacher, identified as a woman in her thirties, at Richneck Elementary School in Virginia.

The teacher’s health condition is yet to stabilize due to the life-threatening injuries resulting from what the police believe was “not an accident,” as reported by Russia Today.

Local Police Chief, Steve Drew, confirmed that the suspect had been taken into custody and that only one teacher was injured. He noted that the boy was involved in “an altercation” with the teacher prior to the incident.

One of the suspect’s classmates told a Newport News Daily Press reporter that the teacher was shot in the stomach area “on purpose,” after which she “fell to her knees.”

Drew addressed the media at a press briefing outside the school saying, “We did not have a situation where someone was going around the school shooting. We had a situation in one particular location where a gunshot was fired.”

No further comments were made regarding the altercation or the means through which the suspect obtained the handgun involved in the incident.
