Sociology professor Hussein al-Khuzai said that in recent years, Jordan has witnessed several suicide attempts by unemployed people.

In his interview with Roya, on Saturday, al-Khuzai attributed the suicide attempts to not investing the energies, experiences and skills of young people, which made them desperate people because they lost hope of finding work.

He added that unemployment causes social and health diseases, especially if its duration is prolonged, indicating that despair in particular infiltrates the unemployed after six months without work.

Al-Khuzai indicated that those who spent two years without work constitute 18% of the total unemployed percentage, and 29% of those who spent a year without work.

He pointed out that the mass suicide attempts are an indication of the similar conditions of the unemployed, calling on the concerned authorities to harness all possibilities to solve the problem of unemployment that leads to many problems.
