Report ranks best, worst passports in 2022

Afghanistan was ranked as the country with the weakest passport in the world, as Afghan people can only access 27 countries without the need for a visa in advance, according to a report issued by London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners.

Iraq and Syria follow closely behind as Iraq can visit 29 destinations and Syria can visit 30 without requiring a visa.

On the other end of the spectrum, Japan, with 193 visa-free destinations, was ranked as the best passport in the world and was followed by Singapore and South Korea, both of which can visit 192 destinations without the need for a visa in advance.

Notably, Jordan was ranked in the 94th place with 53 visa-free destinations.

The best passports to hold in July 2022 are:

  • Japan (193 destinations)
  • Singapore, South Korea (192 destinations)
  • Germany, Spain (190 destinations)
  • Finland, Italy, Luxembourg (189 destinations)
  • Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden (188 destinations)
  • France, Ireland, Portugal, United Kingdom (187 destinations)
  • Belgium, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, United States (186 destinations)
  • Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Greece, Malta (185 destinations)
  • Hungary (183 destinations)
  • Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia (182 destinations)
 

The worst passports to hold in July 2022
The following countries have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 40 or fewer countries:

  • Afghanistan (27 destinations)
  • Iraq (29 destinations)
  • Syria (30 destinations)
  • Pakistan (32 destinations)
  • Yemen (34 destinations)
  • Somalia (35 destinations)
  • Nepal, Palestinian territory (38 destinations)
  • North Korea (40 destinations)
