A resident doctor at Prince Hamzah Hospital was assaulted, insulted and threatened on Friday night, by the brother of a patient in the emergency room.

The doctor, Abdul Latif Abbas, told Roya that he was taken aback when someone punched in the face and started threatening him saying “if something happens to my brother, I’ll shoot you in the forehead.”

Dr. Abbas added, "During my shift, I was alone with the nursing staff, and among the emergency cases was a patient with pneumonia and another person suffering from high blood sugar, and it was necessary to withdraw blood gasses to ensure that there was no acidity in the blood, in addition to two other cases, one of a 55-year-old woman, and a man in his sixties both suspected of having a heart attack, and I was dealing with both cases at the same time by working on cardiac enzymes and electrocardiograms.”

He said, "During all that, when I turned to the source of a voice repeating the question, "Doctor, don't you want to come see him?!" He punched me in the face, and I was wearing glasses that scratched my nose and cornea of the eye. I was also referred to a neurosurgeon and brain specialist."

The doctor added that the hospital administration and the Doctors Syndicate were informed, and a complaint was filed against the aggressor.

For his part, the director of Prince Hamzah Hospital, Dr. Kifah Abu Tarboush, confirmed that the hospital administration will take the necessary legal measures.
