In his nightly address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a "truly historic week" is in store for Ukraine, as Kyiv is due to hear from the EU on its candidate status to join the bloc, AFP reported Sunday.

"Tomorrow begins a truly historic week, when we will hear the answer from the European Union on the candidate status for Ukraine. We already have a positive decision from the European Commission, and at the end of the new week, there will be a response from the European Council," he said.

Zelensky added that he "expects Russia to intensify hostile activity this week."
