The director of Al-Jazeera, Ahmed Al-Yafei, confirmed that Shireen Abu Aqleh's death will not be in vain, and that "whoever assassinated her in broad daylight, I think, misses the accurate and truthful narrative of the Palestinian cause."

Al-Yafei said in a statement to Roya on Friday, that Shireen is the martyr of the free press message, and the martyr of the Palestinian cause.

He said that the martyrdom of Sherine Abu Aqleh is everyone's consolation and a great painful injury, and pointed out that freedom of the press is one of the basic principles of peace that is discussed but does not exist on the ground.
