Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, received a phone call from United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, during which they discussed efforts to end tension and restore calm in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif.

Al-Safadi stressed the need for the Israeli occupation to respect the historical and legal status quo in the Al-Haram Al-Sharif, remove restrictions imposed on worshipers, and the respect administration of the Jerusalem Endowments and the affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jordan, which has the exclusive authority to manage all the affairs of the Al-Haram Al-Sharif, as a way to end tension and restore calm. 

Safadi also stressed the need for immediate and effective action to find a real political horizon that restores hope and confidence in the feasibility of the peace process and achieves progress towards achieving a just peace on the basis of the two-state solution.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations stressed the need to intensify and unite efforts to maintain calm, especially in these blessed days, and the need to respect the historical situation and stop provocative actions.

Guterres briefed Safadi on the efforts and contacts he is making in order to stop the escalation and restore a comprehensive calm. Safadi valued the Secretary-General's position calling for respecting the historical situation in the holy sites, and his efforts aimed at restoring a comprehensive calm and activating the peace process to achieve peace on the basis of the two-state solution.
