Adviser to the Prime Minister for Health Affairs, responsible for the coronavirus file, Adel Belbisi, told Roya Tuesday the Epidemics Committee will reassess the COVID-19 situation in the coming weeks before the holy month of Ramadan.

He added that if the epidemiological situation improves, there will be new mitigating measures that include places of worship, which will start being implemented with the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan.

Earlier Monday, Belbisi said that Jordan is witnessing stability in the epidemiological curve, which has witnessed a decline.

He confirmed that during the ninth epidemiological week (from Feb. 26 until March 4), Jordan recorded 39,979 cases, compared to 60,940 cases in the eighth epidemiological week, which is a decrease of around 34.5 percent.

Additionally, during the ninth week, 97 deaths were recorded, compared to 156 deaths during the eighth week of the pandemic, which is a decrease of about 38 percent.

He called on everyone to receive the vaccine to combat the pandemic.

Jordan recorded 97 deaths and 39,979 new coronavirus cases in one week (from Feb. 26 until March 4), bringing the total number of cases since the beginning of the crisis to 1,654,677, according to the weekly COVID-19 statistical report issued by the Ministry of Health every Sunday. The death toll has risen to 13,882.
