Moroccan official: Drilling has reached a 'very delicate stage' to save Rayan
The excavation operation to rescue Moroccan child Rayan has reached a "very delicate" stage, a Moroccan official said on Saturday evening.
The official added that the stage does not tolerate any error that may lead to the collapse of the well completely.
The official indicated that the rescue workers are about 70 centimeters perpendicular to the location of Rayan, but the excavation process is carried out with utmost precision.
The rescue teams trying to retrieve the child Rayan returned to digging vertically in an attempt to reach him.
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said that the authorities will reveal all developments related to the situation of the child who has been stuck in a well for several days, in press statements carried by the local newspaper, Hespress.
The newspaper said that a medical team specialized in resuscitation entered the tunnel in which Ryan is located.
Saturday, relief teams reached a "very advanced stage" in their strenuous efforts to rescue five-year-old Rayan, who has been stuck for five days in a deep well in northern Morocco, hoping to get him out alive, according to a source from the local authorities.
The source said that the rescue operation "is in a very advanced stage, but it is still difficult to know the remaining period given the nature of the land that is still left to be excavated."
It is also "difficult to be certain of anything about the health condition" of the child, according to the official in charge of the committee supervising the rescue operation, Abdul Hadi Al-Thamrani, to AFP, noting that the camera installed above the well "shows him lying on his side, we only see his back."
On whether he is still alive, Al-Thamrani said, "It is not possible to be certain about that," noting that an ambulance and a medical helicopter are ready to take him to the nearest hospital as soon as he is taken out alive.
Rescue teams worked to provide him with water and oxygen in recent days, but they were not sure that he had used them.
Rayan's fate raises a state of extreme anticipation in the country and abroad, although hopes for his exit alive dwindle with the passage of time.
