A member of the National Committee for Epidemics Bassam Hijjawi said Sunday that there is a clear increase in hospital occupancy rates as a result of the high number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the Kingdom.

Hijjawi added to Roya, that there is a noticeable increase in the number of coronavirus infections in Jordan due to the spread of the Omicron variant. He pointed out that 80 percent of infections in Jordan are caused by Omicron.

He indicated that the PCR positivity rates reached 21.6 percent this week, which is the fifth epidemiological week of 2022. In the fourth week, the percentage was 14 percent, and seven percent in the third week.

He expected Jordan to start recording a further increase in the number of coronavirus infections compared to previous waves, stressing the need to increase the vaccination pace, especially for young age groups.
