Royal Decree approves issuance of special pardon for those convicted of lèse-majesté

A Royal Decree was issued Sunday approving the issuance of a special pardon for those convicted of lèse-majesté.

The special amnesty included dropping the sentence of 155 convicts.

Last month, His Majesty King Abdullah directed the government to look into all cases related to lèse-majesté, which violate article 195 of the Penal Code and in which final rulings have been issued, in order to grant a special pardon to those convicted in such cases.

Lèse-majesté, a French term meaning "to do wrong to majesty."
