The Ministry of Health is considering administering a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine six months after the second dose, the Minister of Health Feras Hawari announced Thursday.

He added that this includes everyone in Jordan.

The announcement came during a press conference that was attended by Hawari and the Chinese ambassador.

During the press conference, it was announced that half a million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine arrived in the Kingdom Thursday as a grant from the Chinese government to the Jordanian people.

In September, Jordan began offering a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine to people with weak immune systems.

The booster dose is currently offered for cancer patients receiving treatment, organ transplant patients, patients who have undergone stem cell transplant during the past two years and are currently receiving immunosuppressive drugs, advanced or untreated HIV infection, patients who take large amounts of corticosteroids or other medicines that weakens the immunity and dialysis patients.

Additionally, the booster dose is given to those who suffer from autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus fever, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, type one diabetes, Guillain-Barre syndrome and genetic diseases such as Down syndrome and DiGeorge syndrome.
