The total number of global COVID-19 cases has surged to 242.1 million, as of Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The University, in its latest update, revealed that the current global death toll has reached about 4.9 million.

The website said that over 6.6 billion doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered so far.
