Over nine months ago, Roya shed light on the living conditions of a homeless man in Amman, who has become known as “Helpless Imad.”

Roya contacted the Ministry of Social Development, which in turn provided the man with a shelter, but he later returned back to living on the streets and his situation became worse than before.

The conditions of a number of homeless people living on the streets of the capital, Amman, in miserable states have been documented by Roya and the authorities were contacted.

The Ministries of Social Development and Health had agreed in 2016 to establish a center to shelter the homeless in a building owned by the Ministry of Health, located near the Karama Psychiatric Rehabilitation Hospital in the Muqablain area, with a capacity to accommodate 60 cases.

The agreement, signed by former Minister of Development Reem Abu Hassan and former Minister of Health Dr. Ali Hiasat provided the new center with technical and medical rehabilitative personnel from the ministries.

This is in cooperation with the administrative rulers and the Public Security Directorate through partnership agreements whereby the work mechanisms of the center are organized.

The tasks of each ministry have been defined, as the Ministry of Social Development will organize instructions for housing the homeless category and logistical procedures.

The Ministry of Health provides specialized medical personnel as well as psychological and medical diagnostic services.
