The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Eqbal Real Estate Development and Hotels, Samer Tawfiq Fakhouri, has stated that the fire that occurred on Monday at The Ritz-Carlton Residences Amman was controlled in record time, thanks to the project’s robust on-site firefighting systems and protocols. The fire was limited to an area of no more than 40 square meters on the outer terrace on the 18 th floor of the residential tower.

Fakhouri added that the fire did not result in any injuries, with damages limited to the ignited construction materials and a small area of the terrace surrounding the site of the incident. However, because these items were packaged in protective materials and cardboard—and because of the prevailing dry wind conditions—the volume of smoke rising up from the fire was more prominent and
noticeable to passersby.

The chairman stressed that the company has always placed a priority on its adherence to rigorous safety and security procedures, noting that the late Tawfiq Fakhouri, founder of Al-Eqbal Real Estate Development and Hotels, was keen to develop a comprehensive strategy for dealing with such issues from the early days of the project’s planning and development. From the very beginning of The Ritz-Carlton Amman’s development, a number of fire and safety experts have been intimately involved in supervising the project and its construction, in order to ensure that all work has been carried out to the highest standards.

Fakhouri also noted that more than 12 million man-hours have been completed at the project without any injuries or incidents, thanks to the team’s full compliance with health and safety protocols, which were carefully outlined from the very outset, as part of the company’s overarching strategy for development.

The company’s chairman concluded by extending his heartfelt thanks to the Civil Defense Directorate and other security agencies for their prompt, professional response and support during the short-lived incident.
